What to Consider When Measuring Your Space For a Foosball Table
Understanding how much room size or square footage you will need in your bar, basement or game room is important so you can plan your space to fit a foosball table in properly. Just like when you are trying to measure for a pool table, you need to factor in enough space for people to actually play the game and not just fit it in the room. The last thing you want to do is buy a table, set it up, and then find out that you don't have enough room to pull the rods back without hitting the wall or have enough leg room to stand behind it.

Regulation Size Foosball Table Dimensions
Most standard, full size foosball tables are about 2 1/2 feet wide by nearly 5 feet in length. A regulation-sized table is 29-30 inches wide, 54-56 inches in length, and 34-36 inches tall. Regulation size means they are made for adults at professional tournaments and there are only eight manufacturers that have a model that can meet this criteria:
Those size specification rules are defined by the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) and the United States Table Soccer Organization (USTSO). Want to learn more about what tables are approved for tournament play? Read more about the professional foosball tables.

Game Room Size
A common question is how much space do you need in your game room in order to fit a table. The width of the table measurements can lead to confusion for how large your game room should actually be. This is because the width doesn't include how far the rods actually stick out and you need to account for this space on both sides. Remember, you also need to make room for people to actually stand and play around the table. This means you need to add about 3 1/2 to 4 feet on each side of the width to be comfortable when playing a game, especially for people who use the proper foosball stance while playing as they will be angled backward and need more space. Measure your room for the proper dimension of 10 feet wide by 8 feet in length in order to ensure that you have enough room to fit your table. |
Additional Space Considerations
Since there are small tabletop models, coffee table versions and even ones that are sized to be played on by children, it is important to ensure your space has enough room around it based on the size and function. Most children-sized tables are about 4 feet in length and 2 1/2 feet tall making them easier to fit into your game room and also see over the top of the surface for the kids. A coffee model requires a little more space around the table since you will likely be playing on your knees, while children's tables are helpful to have more space around them for safety reasons.
There are a couple additional things you may want to factor in like if your table has a side ball return or an end ball return. Side ball returns are nice because you can push the table closer to the wall, while end ball returns require you to fetch balls from the back sides so you want to leave more room for people to retrieve the ball by reaching around the back ends of the table.
